AWESOME, January 18, 2012 This review is from: Van Staal VS Reels (Misc.) What can I say about Van Staal ? Awesome is the word I will use. The ultimate surfing reel. Forget ZeeBaas and anything else. This is the best reel you can buy for surfcasting and anything else. You can go fishing underwater and not have any issues with the reel. It spits water out ! Not really, but thats how good the reel is. It can take serious abuse from anything...Montauk surfcasting, beach surfcasting, bay, and more. I love this reel and own three !! I saved up money each year to by one each year for the past 3 years. IF you love fishing and take it serious and have the money to drop on it, the Van Staal is the way to go!!!! If you need a guide on sizes. If you have a 9ft rod, a VS 100 or VS 150 will work. Even a VS 200 isnt bad, but may be a little big for some for a 9ft rod. If you use a 10ft or 10.6ft rod, then without a doubt go with the VS 200. Anything 11 ft I would go VS 250 or VS 275. If you go bigger then 11ft, like a 11.6 go with a VS 300...Again, awesome reel !!!!
